Children under 6 ride free on a lap on group tours; ages 6–12 pay half. Private prices are per car for up to 4 people; for 5–7 we take the minivan, +150 ₾.

Prices are in Georgian lari, as Georgian law requires; payment is in lari at the day's rate. The dollar figure is a reference only, at the National Bank of Georgia rate of 15 September 2026.

Four cars we service ourselves

Automatic gearboxes, full insurance with an excess, a service check every six months. Pick up at the airport, our office or your Tbilisi hotel. The daily rate depends on length — three tiers below.

Driver
Aged 23 or over with 3+ years of driving. A licence in Latin script is fine; if yours is only in Cyrillic or another script, bring an International Driving Permit.
Mileage
250 km per day; unlimited from 8 days. Extra kilometres at 0.3 ₾ each.
Deposit
Held on a card or paid in cash, returned within 3 days of drop-off. The deposit equals the insurance excess.
Delivery
Tbilisi airport 8:00–22:00 and Tbilisi hotels — free; at night +40 ₾; Kutaisi airport +150 ₾.
With a driver
Any car with our driver — +120 ₾ per day, his lodging on the road included.
Fuel and borders
Return with the same fuel level. Trips into Armenia by arrangement, +60 ₾ for insurance; no other countries.

Since 2017
Kavkaz Trails LLC has been registered in Tbilisi since 2017. The owner still drives two days a week.
Guides
Three guides, each certified by the Georgian National Tourism Administration. Languages: Russian, English, Georgian.
Insurance
Passengers are insured on every tour. Rental cars carry comprehensive insurance with an excess; the excess equals the deposit and you never pay more.
Cars
Toyota, Hyundai and Mitsubishi from 2019–2022, serviced every six months, winter tyres from November.
Weather
If the Jvari Pass is closed or there is a storm in the mountains, we offer another day or another route. If neither suits, the deposit is refunded in full.
Cancellation
Free up to 48 hours before the start. Later than that, we keep the 20% deposit.
Payment
A 20% deposit on confirmation, the balance on the day. Cash in lari, card by link or terminal, or bank transfer to our TBC account. Companies can pay by invoice.

  • Six of us in the group; our guide Giga talked exactly as much as needed and stayed quiet when we wanted to look out of the window. We went up to Gergeti in the Delica and were back in Tbilisi by 19:00 as promised. Lunch in Stepantsminda was 35 lari a head, just as the site says.

  • We booked the Kakheti day two days ahead, right in the middle of the harvest. The winery was a family in Kvareli, not a tourist hall: three wines and chacha, lunch extra as stated. Hotel pick-up was at 8:00 sharp.

FAQ

What people ask before the trip

What should I bring to the mountains?

A windbreaker and something warm even in summer: Gergeti is 10–12 degrees colder than Tbilisi. Closed shoes, water, and some cash in lari for lunch — mountain cafés don't always take cards. A passport is needed only for Tusheti and border zones.

Can we bring children?

Yes, on every day trip. A child seat is free — tell us the age when booking. We don't recommend Svaneti with children under 5: long drives on unpaved roads.

What is the weather like in the mountains, and what if it turns bad?

Weather changes within an hour. We check the forecast the evening before and message you. If the pass is closed or there is a storm, we offer another day or route, or refund the deposit in full. Light rain doesn't cancel a trip.

Is the road to Kazbegi open in winter?

Usually yes. The Jvari Pass closes for a few hours or a day after heavy snowfall and during avalanche risk. We check the status on the morning of the trip and never set out towards a closed pass.

Can I pay by card? Is a deposit required?

Yes: by card via a link or at the office terminal, cash in lari, or bank transfer. A 20% deposit after the date is confirmed holds the car and the guide. Car rental needs no prepayment — only the deposit at pick-up.

Do I need an international permit to rent a car?

Not if your licence is in Latin script. If it is only in Cyrillic, Arabic, Chinese or another script, you need an International Driving Permit; without it the police can fine you and the insurance won't apply.

What happens in case of an accident or breakdown?

Call us and the police (112), stay at the scene, photograph everything. We come out or send a tow truck and a replacement car within the day anywhere within 200 km of Tbilisi. Your liability is capped at the deposit.

How do I reach you during the trip?

You'll have the guide's number and the office number, both answered around the clock. A Georgian SIM from Magti or Geocell costs 10–15 lari and works almost everywhere except Ushguli and Omalo.
